I love texture. Clay can be manipulated in so many ways and whilst I love creating tableware and structured form, my favourite use of clay is to create texture. I am constantly striving to find new ways to add an interesting edge to my work and how different textures react to being glazed.
I have recently been producing a range that utilises clay to create ‘wave-like’ fins around the perimeter of a form. These can be rectangular or heart shape dishes that are slab rolled and then I add the textured fins at the leather hard stage. I have used a standard stoneware body glazed with a celadon over purple mauve.
